This Lekempte coffee grows in the natural forests 250km west of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia’s capital city). The town of Nekempte is famous for being a market and trading place, where people have exchanged food, crafts, and ideas for generations. Nekempte is the capital of the Wellega province, which shares a Western border with Sudan.

Farmers know that good rains will result in good coffee. The Wellega highlands receive more rainfall than the drier northern and eastern regions, and this lush area is known for producing large coffee beans. Our Lekempte coffee is dried in its cherry, creating strong fruit flavors and a heavier body. The natural forest environment where the coffee grows lends herbal notes to the soil, contributing to a unique cup profile.

Western Ethiopia produces coffee that is distinct in flavor from the southern coffee-growing areas. Sweetness is enhanced while acidity is downplayed, creating a balanced cup and making this coffee a perfect addition to blends.
