Every fall, roasters from across North America send their best coffees to Golden Bean, the world's largest coffee roasting competition. This year it took place in Denver from September 30 to October 3, and we were proud to be there as an industry partner.
We were even prouder when the medals were announced. Several of the winning coffees started as green coffee from Keffa, and one name kept coming up: Wush Wush.
Silver Grizzly Espresso, Longview, Texas
Silver Grizzly took home 4 medal in different categories with their Ethiopia Wush Wush. They roast it light and describe it as strawberry, rose and candied sweetness. On their bag they list it as relational trade via Keffa Coffee, which is exactly how we like to work.
Sweet Bloom Coffee Roasters, Lakewood, Colorado
Sweet Bloom is no stranger to winning. Not long ago they won Best Roaster in the U.S. and Canada at the 2026 Global Coffee Awards. with our Wush Wush. Andy Sprenger and his team have been roasting beautiful coffee since 2013, and we are honored that Wush Wush is part of their story.
Why Wush Wush keeps winning
Wush Wush is one of Ethiopia's rarest varieties, Our lot comes from producer Mesfin Bekele and 350 member farmers growing at 2,100 to 2,300 meters. Many of their trees are more than 50 years old. They yield less, but the cup is remarkable.
The farmers pick only the ripest cherries and ferment them for 120 hours before drying them on raised beds. That long, careful process gives the coffee its fruit bomb character: sangria, ripe berry, florals and a sweet, syrupy finish. It cups at 90 points.
We first cupped this coffee in 2019 and have bought the best lots from these farmers every year since.
Congratulations
The roasters did the hard work here. A medal at Golden Bean goes to the roaster, and only about 1% of entries earn gold. We are grateful to supply coffee to people who roast with this much skill, and grateful to the farmers who grow it.
Wush Wush is in stock now. If you would like a sample or want me to reserve bags for you, let me know.
