Varietal
A rare Ethiopian coffee variety named after the town of Wush Wush in the Keffa zone--the birthplace of Coffea arabica. Prized for tropical fruit character, floral complexity, and wine-like acidity.
Definition
Wush Wush is a distinct Ethiopian coffee variety (Coffea arabica) native to the forests of southwestern Ethiopia. The name comes from the town of Wush Wush in the Keffa zone, part of the region where coffee originated.
Unlike the more common heirloom designation that covers diverse genetic material, Wush Wush is a specific variety with identifiable characteristics. It was later transplanted to Colombia and other origins, but Ethiopian Wush Wush remains the benchmark.
Why Roasters Care
Wush Wush delivers tropical fruit notes--mango, papaya, passionfruit--that stand apart from typical Ethiopian profiles. Complex acidity with wine-like structure.
Named after coffee's birthplace. Limited production. The kind of origin story that sells to specialty customers looking for something exceptional.
High-quality Wush Wush lots have been used in barista competitions. When you need a coffee that scores high and stands out, this variety delivers.
Our Approach
Our Wush Wush comes from the variety's home region. Sam Demisse has 34 years of relationships in the Keffa zone where coffee began.
Every Wush Wush lot is cupped at origin before we commit. The variety has potential, but not every lot expresses it.
Production is limited. When we have Wush Wush in stock, it moves fast. Request samples early in the harvest season.
Every lot includes moisture, water activity, and cupping notes so you know exactly what you're getting.
